What to Look For When Choose a Man and Van Service

Well first off, reliability!

No good hiring a van with a man who doesn't turn up! Sadly seems to be the case that many of the 'one man band' man and van drivers often over-extend and can't always meet their obligations due to an overfull diary.

The man and van service is quite an old business which hasn't really moved with the times. Unlike say booking a taxi where most firms will send an SMS to let you know the driver has been dispatched or that the car is at your pick-up destination. Your van location is typically determined by you phoning the driver to see where he is!

Things are slowly starting to change with some firms offering apps that at least give you some form of notification and even some offering live tracking as you would find in something say like Uber.

Availability.

We should plan for when we need a van but this doesn't always happen right? You have bought some furniture either second-hand or in store and need it home now! What if you need to book a man and van and you need one today, or even faster say in the next hour?

The problem is if you need a van at short notice phoning a dozen different drivers to find one that is available is somewhat of a pain. You need a way of putting your requirements 'out there' and being able to easily get an available driver to pick up your job.

It maybe that you have some things to move but not sure what van size you need. By being able to enter or even tell your driver what it is you are moving, he or she should be able to assist in choosing the right size van. No good having a medium van turn up when you are moving the contents of a 2 bedroom flat! Make sure you are clear about what it is you are moving to make everything run smoothly.

Locality.

No good hiring a driver and van for your pickup in say South East London if your driver is based in Hertfordshire! Much of the cost of the job will be for the driver to actually get to you first before he or she has even picked up!

In an ideal world you would be able to give your job to a driver that is close by and get to you in a reasonable and keep the cost of the job to a minimum.
